Japan = sushi, right? Wrong. Log a 28-hour flight and we discover that Japanese fare is much more reminiscent of our local brasseries.
A Brasserie Japonaise, perhaps? A concept that is Big in Japan. This casual new diner on St-Laurent serves up a variety of traditional Japanese meals.
We dug into Teba Gyoza ($6) chicken wing dumplings, Kimpira ($5), a salad of carrots and daikon, and various veggie ($3/2) and protein brochettes ($4/2) lightly coated in panko. Onigiri rice balls ($4/2) are a must (wrapped in rice paper for easy handling). They offer a three-course lunch ($10), midnight snacks and a takeout sandwich menu ($5) to boot.
What’s big in Japan will soon be big in Montreal.
