The food at a new BYOW may have the aesthetic appeal of French cuisine, but the flavours come straight from Japan.
Japanese chef Takashi Sakurai was trained in France, and with partner Shiho Kanamaru, has opened Restaurant Toroli, blending the best of both worlds.
The full table d’hôte (a bargain at $35) begins with miso soup made with leaks and shitake mushrooms. Next up, a gorgeous plate of Kushiyaki grilled veggies decorated with tiny flowers. The delicious Saumon au Sésame was presented on a plate of cream sauce made with sake. Dessert was a delicate orange mousse and fresh fruit served with our choice of Japanese teas.
Everything was too beautiful to eat. (Though our full stomach says otherwise.)
