The Un-Bar

Our nights out have been favouring stand-up outfits lately (as in we look best in them while upright). Needless to say, our feet are tired (stand-up clothing usually pairs best with wish-I-was-sitting shoes).
Here to the rescue: Jaroblue Tapas & Lounge, a new seated-only it-spot that, according to owners Robin Lokhorst and Jared Seifrit, will never have a live DJ or dance floor. (Lockhorst was quick to let us know: "We don't want to be a bar.")
Featuring marble floors, custom velvet furnishings from Domicile, and photographs of wild horses by Spanish artist Roberto Dutesco, we felt like we were dining in a modern interpretation of an old boy’s club. (Where girls are not required to keep out.)
Chef Jonas Hamre’s share-plate menu allowed for satisfying sampling, including Pear Salad Grilled with Walnut & Blue Cheese ($12), Merlot Strawberry Pate with Balsamic Bread Pudding Chips ($12) and Duck Confit & Risotto Croquette with Pineapple Chutney ($12). With a little more belly to spare, we added in a Lobster Roll with Soba Noodle & Wasabi Cream ($15).
And to end the meal? A signature shot of chilled Van Gogh Espresso Vodka ($6.50). (Just because it’s not a bar, doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy a drink.)
