It was named after the scientific term for combined metals. It was located in a somewhat bizarre Southeast location amidst warehouses and a neighbouring timber store. Needless to say, we didn't expect to be knocked on our rears in amazement when we visited the just-opened Alloy restaurant this week.
But this urban oasis (outside of the core!) had our derrieres sore for days.
Exquisitely elegant (yet surprisingly comfortable), the luxurious white leather booths, marble accents, cherry blossom trees and hues of pink glass suited our feminine sensibilities just fine.
And then came the food: A seamless fusion of east and west (and north and south!). Our ever-moistening lips were treated to scrumptious Lobster Tempura ($18) served on a bed of Asian slaw with a citrus ponzu for delectable dipping. After that we couldn't decide-should we try the made-to-order Seafood Risotto ($24) with a bevy of ahi tuna, prawns, scallops and mussels, or should we dive into the Thai Beef Salad ($15), a result of careful study and sampling abroad?
We sampled both before finishing with dessert, the heavenly Banana Bread Pudding ($9). As soon as the marriage of warm banana brioche, cream and custom-made Malibu coconut gelato hit our tongue, we started planning our next escape from the city centre...
