Desserting Date Night

Dinner and a movie are dullsville and meeting for coffee, puh-lease. On date night, we like a little originality to sweeten things up (even if we’ve been with our guy for a million years).
So we’re checking out newbie hot spot: Nectar Desserts.
Executive chef and owner Rebekah Pearse offers us and the beau intimate table service after 5 p.m. for a drool-worthy selection of gourmet delights paired with wines by the glass. Artisanal in nature and made from ethically-sourced ingredients, these treats are sugar and spice and everything nice. (Kind of like us.)
Naturally, we couldn’t say no to the aptly-named Cream on Cream ($12) paired with Domaine de Durban’s Muscat Beaumes de Venise ($8). The combination of fromage blanc cheesecake artfully presented with lavender shortbread, macerated raspberries and buttermilk ice cream was every bit as smooth as the name suggests. Then feeling generous, we shared the Chocolate Experience ($12) paired with a 2003 Domaine Du Traginer Banyuls ($8) with our man. One bite of the flaky pastry and we knew we simply had to sample the chocolate and grey sea salt caramel tart, served with valrhona chocolate sorbet and spiced hot chocolate.
With romance back on delicious track, we decided to forgo lattes ($4.25) for a little sugar of our own.
