Carb-a-licious

Some people live by the motto “everything in moderation”. We’d like to offer proof of the contrary creed: “You can never have too much of a good thing.”
Le Fournil, the artisan organic bakery located in the heart of Victoria Village, is one of the area’s best-kept secrets. The Friedman sister trio has been so successful with their quaint neighbourhood shop that they’ve opened a second location, sharing their deliciousness with the downtown crowd.
Regulars frequent Le Fournil for its delicious bread (including Kalamata olive, Kamut, and 100% whole wheat to name but a few) but it’s the famous fruit squares ($3.50) that keep us coming back for more. Not quite a cake or a brownie, these thick and delicious buttery treats can come topped with both fruit and chocolate concoctions.
We’ve also been known to indulge in their sticky raisin-filled and ultra-moist cinnamon buns. From walnut cheese and multi-grain cranberry bread to cupcakes and lemon meringue pie (with fresh lemon curd), their creations have all of our cravings covered. And their gluten-free chocolate brownies saved us during our flourless health kick.
On our next visit, we plan on ordering a birthday cake. (It’s somebody’s birthday somewhere, right?).
