Let Them Eat Cake

Thanks to the Food Network, we’ve seen some impressive confections. Our baking vocabulary is filled with words like ganache, infusion and fondant, and cakes topped with plastic toys just won’t cut it anymore (sorry, mom).
Mélanie Foisy and Gabrielle Ducharme from CAKE Sucre d’Art are here to bring our dessert to TV level. As master cake designers, their creations (starting at $65) range from classical themes to favourite childhood cartoon characters. The fact that their art was entirely edible made our heart skip a beat (we’re sure the sugar had nothing to do with it).
Our favourite masterpiece was a spring flower themed cake with soft colours and cute little candy bees buzzing around the top. Their violin shaped cake looked so real we were tempted to pick it up and see if it actually played. They need three weeks notice for each order (which gives us three weeks to figure out what we need to have a party for…)
Move over Duff Goldman: Montreal now has its very own ace of cakes.
