The search for enlightenment has taken us from meditation to yoga to the literature of Deepak Chopra. But who knew that salvation could be found at the bottom of a bowl?
We entered Au Feu: Bistro Allumé and the process of illumination began. The intimate space was immediately welcoming; soft candlelight and a glowing countertop at the bar set the stage for a meal that was as unrushed as it was delicious.
With a menu that changes daily and embraces South American and European cuisine, the choices were endless. We started with the refreshing salade croquante ($5.75) and the delicate ravioli aux epinards ($6.25). The bavette de boeuf ($15.50) with thick cut fries and steamed veggies was accompanied by a lush mushroom sauce. And the tilapia with saffron ($14.50) with a perfect pyramid of rice and garnished with flower petals was a Zen experience in itself.
Sipping our coffee, we were mesmerized by the vibrant patterns in the mandalas adorning the walls. A sense of serenity and calm descended (and lingered when we saw the final tab).
Contemplation has never tasted so good.
