It’s Valentine’s Day. The couples already have their plans set. But if you’re living in singles-ville, you’re probably still deciding between celebrating your unattached status, or wallowing in the lonely void. Whether you make it a happy or sad occasion, we think it’s the perfect time for a drink. Here’s what celebrity mixologist Fabien Maillard of Mixoart suggests for tonight’s festivities:
Sweet Kiss
4 - 6 Fresh Strawberries
5 - 8 Mint Leaves
Juice of ¼ Lime
½ teaspoon of Simple Syrup (Mix 2 tspns white sugar with 1 tspn boiling water)
1 ½ oz Vodka
½ oz Strawberry Liqueur
In a mixing glass, crush together the mint, strawberries, lime juice, and syrup. Now add the vodka, strawberry liqueur and a few ice cubes. Cover, shake, and pour into a martini glass. Garnish with a strawberry and mint leaf.
And to round out a night full of Sweet Kisses, here are a few suggestions from the Sweetspot team:
Read: Savage Love by Dan Savage, sex columnist. On a day when it sucks to be single, nothing beats reading about other people’s sex and relationship woes. This raunchy collection of Dan’s best letters is a guaranteed laugh (if you don’t mind the potty mouth).
Watch: Whipped, starring Amanda Peet. A classic girl meets boys, boys get their just desserts. (It’s from 2000, so you’ll have to venture into the inner aisles of the video store).
Listen: Songs About Jane, by Maroon 5. The album is an ode to lead singer Adam’s ex-girlfriend Jane (how appropriate), but the tunes won’t drag you down the depression spiral.
Be sure to enjoy yourself to the fullest by drinking responsibly.
