Feeling Blue

gourmet food shopMontreal (May.24.05)

First it was wheat grass. Then it was flaxseed and wild salmon. But while superfoods come and go, the blueberry has been an undisputed mainstay on the top of the health food hierarchy for years now. Unless you’ve been hibernating for the better part of the millennium, you already know that blueberries have noble, cancer-fighting power. Can’t get enough of ‘em, they say. (Okay, the dentist who whitens your teeth may have another take, but. . .)

So for the sake of keeping our favourite antioxidant as exciting as the day we first popped a bunch in our mouths, we’ve found a novel new way for you to get your daily dose. Simply drizzle some Blueberry Maple Syrup over pancakes or dig into some exquisite Blueberry, Porto and Ginger Jam, the latest creations from chef Laurent Godbout. He’s the culinary mastermind behind Chez L’Épicier, an entertaining resto in the Old Port across from the Bonsecour Market. You’ll love the curious mix of flavours in Les Saveurs de L’Épicier, and the designer packaging.

But Godbout’s line of congestibles isn’t limited to blueberry products. We’re also crazy about the Parmesan oils, the maple vinegars, and—the showstopper—the raspberry chocolate jam.

Oh, by the way, we’re starting a cheeky rumour that raspberry chocolate jam contains anti-oxidants. Pass it on!
