Paris has the macaron. New Orleans has the Bananas Foster. Now Calgary can lay claim to its own sweet treat – the Alberta Whisky Cake.
Concocted by Albertan Kamla McGonigal, these cakes are made entirely from local ingredients like Ellison Flour from Lethbridge, and Premium High River Distillery whisky.
The Cakery Bakery, a small private bakery in the southeast, is the first to offer these truly homegrown delicacies ($35-$60), which can be ordered online or by phone for pick-up or delivery.
We admit they are not diet-friendly. But they’re moist and flavourful with just the right amount of whisky to make it a sinfully good treat.
The real question is: do we go with the chocolate or the Canadian maple?
