Foodie lesson du jour: an abattoir is a slaughterhouse—but that’s not stopping us from bee lining to L’Abattoir, located in the old Irish Heather space.
There isn’t much stopping this from becoming our new go-to spot. Owner Paul Grunberg and chef Lee Cooper (who cut his teeth at Market, The Pear Tree and the UK’s The Fat Duck) put out French-inspired food with a modern twist and seasonal flavours, while barman Shaun Layton (Vancouver magazine’s Bartender of the Year) and sommelier Jake Skakun keep the libations flowing.
The chicken and lightly pickled cauliflower salad ($13) is palette perfection, as is the leg of lamb in Indian spice ($23) and the fizzy limonade with tapioca pearls ($9).
Lesson complete.
