Making our way in the world today definitely takes everything we’ve got. So yes, sometimes we just want to go where everybody knows our name (and it would be nice if they were always glad we came). Burgundy Lion

Until now the strip of Little Burgundy just east of Atwater market has been home to antique shops, condo projects and trendy restos (such as new resident McKiernan). What this burgeoning neighbourhood lacked, however, was a place for locals to eat, drink and be merry. With its casually cool vibe Burgundy Lion now fills that void.

Sprawled out over two floors (the highlight of which is an open terasse in the center of the first floor), the newest addition to Notre Dame is a gastropub that is already attracting the city’s hipsters. Serving traditional pub fare with an upscale twist, our favourite menu items include Manchester curry ($12-$17), the Highland burger ($13, served on a Kaiser bun with Portobello mushrooms, gruyere and fries), Bangers & Mash ($13) and English Poutine ($11).

With a pint of house brew ($6) in hand, we’re just happy we’ve found a spot to stop thinking about our troubles (even if they are all the same).
