Westmount’s Flirty Friday

Slip into your Manolo Blahniks and get ready to flirt! Westmount has a new schmoozing destination with cut-rate martinis. Mess Hall Bistro-Bar holds a weekly mixer, called Flirty Fridays, attracting local hotties who usually migrate across town to St. Laurent Blvd. Save the cab fare. Instead, go to Mess Hall and order a Messy Martini for only $6 a glass. (If two people at a table order a Messy Martini, the price drops to $5 each.)
For sobriety’s sake, we recommend some food to soak up the booze. Mess Hall just launched a dazzling new menu from Chef Jeff Stirrup. He creates unpretentious dishes that please even the most highfaluting foodies. Think soft-shell crabs with tiny cubes of avocado ($13). Think hanger steaks served atop a giant onion ring ($22). Insiders love the lobster truffle fettuccini with fresh basil and white wine ($29). For melt-in-your-mouth goodness, get the braised short rib appetizer ($12) or the braised lamb shank dish ($25).
A word about the décor: Mess Hall renovated, showcasing its vintage chandelier. The vibe is antique grandeur, with a modern twist. (Note the red racing lights across the wall!)
The lighting is flattering, we report, for those of us who appreciate the help.
