If tequila had a tag line, it would be “Seemed like a good idea at the time.”
At least, that’s what we thought prior to our visit to Reposado, a new tequila bar that gave us an education on – and new obsession with – the misunderstood spirit. (With the city’s largest selection of Mexico’s genius invention combined with an infectious laidback vibe, it was the ideal spot to get schooled.)
Forgoing our ritual lick, shake, shoot, suck, we started the night by sipping on Los Arango Reposado Tequila ($8 for 1.5 oz). The smooth experience had us signing up for a 4 Copas Flight ($23), which let us try one ounce each of a blanco (un-aged), reposado (aged two months to one year) and anejo (aged one to three years) by the same organic producer.
Ready to see what else a great tequila could do, we tested (and loved, and tested again) Reposado’s Grand Margarita ($9), made with freshly squeezed lime juice. It was the perfect partner for handmade chips with sour cream and onion dip ($5.95), by far the best item on their simple bar menu.
We ended the night by paying homage to our memories of tequila-moments past (choppy as they may be) with the Spring Break Blanco ($12) flight. The verdict? Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time.
