Mi Burrito es su Burrito

As a conscientious member of society, we feel it is important to educate ourselves on the culturally diverse landscape of the modern world. So we’re packing our pantry with Pingüinos ($1.99 for a two-pack) – Mexico’s answer to the Hostess Cupcake (the big difference: the expiry date is this month rather than five years away).
The cream-stuffed chocolate cakes are only one of our finds from Mi Burrito – a new and super-cheap burrito-stand-slash-Latino-grocery-store. It’s loaded with all the things we can’t get in the supermarket’s Mexican section, like Herdez salsa ($2.99). Who knew it also came in flavours called 5 Chiles, Chilpotle and Chile de Arbol?
We’re loading up with La Niña brand plantain chips ($0.75 per bag) and Santa Eduvigis’ semitas, which are basically pineapple Pop Tarts from El Salvador ($3 per pack). To wash these items down we’re using Naranja’s drink crystals (think Mexican Kool-Aid with flavours like guava, watermelon, mango and tamarind).
And since we may invite all our Facebook friends over for a home-cooked Latino-themed dinner this summer, we’re happy that Mi Burrito has all the ingredients we need: nopalitos (tender cactus), mole, corn flour, hominy, dried peppers galore, Mexican loose tea and lots of curious junk food for our snack bowls.
If we had known the global village was so delicious, we would have taken up cultural activism much sooner.
