Shiny, happy summer days are upon us. So what better time to soak up some much-needed rays than with a picnic in the park? Picnicking done right requires all the right trimmings, and we’ve come across the loveliest little place to fill your basket with all your cheese, baguette and antipasto needs.
La Fromagerie is just a stone’s throw away from Little Italy on College Street. Here you’ll find an array of some of the best cheeses you’re ever sunk your teeth into. This pretty little store specializes in artisan cheeses from Quebec, France and Portugal and if you’ve never tried true, unpasteurized cheese, you don’t know what you’re missing!

Simply put, unpasteurized means no chemicals or additives are thrown into the mix, so all you get is the rich, deep cheese flavour and aroma. From French bries to camemberts to farmhouse goat’s and sheep’s milk cheese (priced at $4.50 to $22/100 g), they’re all here. We particularly savoured the organic, cow’s milk Rassembleu and raw, sheep’s milk Monarque cheeses from Quebec.

La Fromagerie also has a great selection of marinated olives, sundried tomatoes, luscious olive and truffle oils as well as crusty baguettes and croissants. You’ll feel like you jetted over to Paris, if only for a day… Mai oui!
