Pain-fully delicieuse
authentic french patisserieToronto
(Nov.18.04)
Crispy and flaky on the outside, fluffy and soft in the middle. It can’t be too heavy, but then again, it can’t be too light either. And no way can it leave a greasy residue on our fingers. Call us picky (who us?), but these are just a few of our ‘croissant-requirements’. And while we’d love to move to Paris, we’ve found a little spot right here in our dear city, that happens to make the finest croissant we’ve tried in a long while.
It’s called Pain Perdu, and in addition to making the finest quiches, brioches and other sinfully delicious treats, it’s the croissant that keeps us coming back to this authentically French patisserie. The flake-factor is like no other (it literally crackles on your first bite). And its soft, fluffy inside with buttery (but not greasy) taste is well, cashmere to your buds. And unlike the neon-yellow phonies out there, Pain Perdu’s croissants aren’t super-sized – making one (okay, sometimes two), the perfect companion to a café au lait.
No, it’s not Paris or Provence, but dear friends, Pain Perdu comes darn close for these (okay we’ll admit) picky taste buds.
