Quick - name your most memorable restaurant meal. We’re talking delicious food, perfectly matched wine, exquisite setting, and impeccable service. Still staring blankly at the screen?

It’s not an easy task to get all those elements right. Which is why we were blown away with our experience at the Mark Picone Culinary Studio. Located in Vineland, it’s worth every minute of the drive from Toronto (which is about an hour, depending on traffic).

This isn’t an ordinary restaurant. The private dining room – decorated with French antiques and overlooking a vineyard on the Niagara Escarpment – is reserved for your party only. Chef Mark Picone uses his extraordinary talent, experience, and love of food to build your unique menu, which he prepares in the kitchen-equipped dining room and serves himself.

You’ll savour dishes like Cured Char on Cucumber with Red Pepper and Peach Mustard, or Hand Rolled Agnolotti with Golden Nugget Squash and Sherry Cream. For dessert, sink into treats like Chocolate Merlot Cake with Classic Vanilla Anglaise and Spiced Apple Sorbet. He’ll even match the dishes to the wines you plan on bringing (so dig out the good stuff from the cellar).

At $75 per person for a three or four course lunch, and $125 for a four to five course dinner (plus tax and tip), the price is comparable to a downtown restaurant (where you have to share the room and the chef). He’ll accommodate couples (can you get any more romantic?) or large groups.
