Hottest Dog

Dressed in a head-to-toe new summer ensemble (purchased entirely on sale), we didn’t want to soil our chic look by scarfing down a less-than-glamorous hot dog.
Fortunately, we have another outlet for our wiener affection: Buddha Dog. Turning the utensil-less dish into the next great trend in comfort-food-cum-cuisine, this new restaurant is giving street meat a run for its questionable origins (and selling out of its handmade dogs almost everyday since it opened its first Toronto location earlier this month).
Lunching families and snacking foodies sit side-by-side, munching on mini-hotdogs (about the length of a playing card, $2) lathered in any range of Buddha Dog’s specialty sauces (ranked against each other in a sweet-to-spicy spectrum, $0.25).
We start with the popular garlic aioli, discovering that this fancy food paste is deliciously at home on our bun. We savour our sweet red pepper jelly-dressed dog (the chunky saccharine sauce makes it more like dessert).
And we’re sure to return so we can sample a hotdog smothered in the ginger maple Dijon or cherry ketchup, or possibly Indian butter. (Or, more likely, one of each.)
