Holy Crepe

Toronto (Nov.25.05)

We love our city (Toronto rocks!!) - but sometimes we dream of far away places. And when we walk in to Crêpes à GoGo, our mind immediately wanders to belle Paris. . . But enough about the charming ambiance. We’re really here for the crêpes. Made right in front of you, the painstaking technique confirms that we will never accomplish this at home. In fact, we’re barely qualified to choose from the astonishing list of crêpe possibilities. Need help? Véronique, the owner, will steer you towards some of their signature items.

We fall hard for the Big Ben, a crêpe made with mozzarella cheese and raspberry jam. It’s named after Véronique’s son, Benjamin, who paired these seemingly unlikely ingredients and achieved crêpe nirvana.

Take Véronique’s own creation, La Véronique, with Brie, strawberries, baby spinach, and maple syrup. Not only do French women possess great élan, they are also whizzes at creating flavour combinations.

If you feel for a sweet combination, you must go for chocolate – using the same chocolate sticks used in pain au chocolat. Try it with banana, strawberry, or orange marmalade.

Crêpes à GoGo is currently located at 244 Bloor Street West (entrance on Bedford) but they’ll eventually move to 18 Yorkville, so make sure you sign the guest book at the original location to keep up to date on the move. Because we all crave la vie en rose once in awhile.
