We’ve always known that music and food go well together—and when you add a comfy, unpretentious vibe to the mix, well, it just doesn’t get any better.

So on a recent stroll down Commercial Drive (a.k.a. “the Drive,” fine), we stumbled upon Timbre Restaurant, where owner Ryan Townsend has combined delicious “Canadian food” (think: burgers, potatoes, and good ol’ meat) and live music by the Fir Trio live jazz band and acoustic folk/soul singer Bucky Coe, who hits the stage tonight.
Sliding into a tall, wooden bar stool in the eclectic, cheerful room, we whet our appetites with a few “Opening Acts”; Chef Trevor Walsh’s baked potato soup ($7), blackened yellowfin tuna bites ($12) and yam fries ($7) were as classically delicious as it gets.
Next, we split “One Hit Wonder” smoked chicken brie grilled cheese ($11) and the “Unplugged” steak and goat cheese salad ($17), before making room on the cozy table for the “Headliners”: a wild coho salmon ($18) steak, which came cedar-roasted with a maple rosemary glaze, and the gut strut ($17), a tomato-basmati rice jambalaya with smoked chicken, scallops, prawns and mussels.
And of course, every good music/food combo deserves a good “After Party”; we went with the blueberry chocolate cheesecake ($9) variety.
Rock on.
