The kitchen is last on our places-to-be list when the sun is shining. (Unless we’re whipping up a jug of Sangria, of course.)
Kenneth Cho, owner of newly opened Michi Sushi, was reading our minds. His South Granville venture, a mini space decked out in dark wood walls and lime green floors, offers a choice of 10 fresh-made sushi rolls. Not the sliced variety – they’re all half a roll, oh-so-conveniently wrapped in minimal packaging (green floors, green initiatives) and ready to go.
The rolls aren’t just your average California ($3) either (though if you’re craving one, they’ve got one of the tastiest we’ve tried). We also dug into the Tamago ($3.25), with asparagus, shitake mushrooms and spinach; and the Prawn and Avocado ($3.50), with lemon mayo. Since all the rolls are made with 50% brown rice, we even satisfied our inner wannabe health nut.
How does Nathan know how to up the ante on sushi? His career path up to this point has included stints at high-end Vancouver institutions West, Lumiere and Bishop’s.
He calls it “sushi taken to the next level.” We call him a savior.
