Deuce Pour Deux

Setting foot on North Shore soil was, until recently, anything but a one-stop shop. Sure, North Vancouver has bragging rights to the super-quaint Lonsdale Quay and West Vancouver has some of the best beaches in town (Ambleside, anyone?), but come dinnertime, we were frequently left to our own devices—that is, to battle bridge traffic coming back.
But now, Ian McTavish and Angie Parkinson of Yaletown jazz hotspot Capones have gone and opened Deuce, Lonsdale Avenue’s newest eatery and, naturally, place to be seen. With an open concept kitchen, wood-accented dining area and counter-to-ceiling wine bar, Chef Courtney Burnham’s “honest Canadian take on west coast cuisine,” is right at home.
We whet our appetites with the Dungeness Crab Risotto Fritters ($13) and Brown Derby Salad ($10), featuring a prosciutto crisp, quail’s egg, and Naramata Bench blue cheese dressing, then dove right into the Serious Mac and Cheese ($16), a grown-up take on the classic with fontina cheese, pancetta, oyster mushrooms, and truffle oil. And the perfectly-savoury Braised Beef Short Ribs ($18) with sweet potato shoestrings? Though pricey, they were as tasty as can be, and we simply couldn’t get enough.
Just like we now can’t get enough of the North Shore.
