Sometimes, after a long week at work the last thing a girl wants to do is slink into a pair of stilettos and hit the town. But spend a Friday night home alone? No, we would never suggest that (well, we actually would, but not when you can wipe off your makeup, slip on your Birks and head out for some no-frills down-home fun).

Make your plans now to spend the first Friday of the month (or at least one Friday of your life) with a group of friends at the Perogy Dinner Night at the Ukrainian Orthodox Auditorium. Sounds crazy, we know, but trust us on this one - it’s a total hoot. Even if you’re not Ukrainian, orthodox or church going, you’re more than welcome to enjoy some of the best homemade perogies in the West.

The dinners have a your-second-cousin’s-prairie-wedding-reception-in-the-local-hall feel and attract a wide-range of characters from all across town – a true melting pot of Vancouver’s finest (or at least those who know a good perogy when they see one).

An army of Ukrainian ladies dish up heaping plates of homemade perogies, along with sauerkraut, kovbasa, salad, and borscht, depending on the type of meal you chose ($9 - $14). And save room, the homemade desert is only $1.

For your best people-watching entertainment, score a table on the stage (it’s worth the view)!
