Red, White and Sparkling

We're gals on the look out for all that is hot, hip, happening and cool. We like our lounges stylish, our men sexy and are wine bars Whineos (we are, after all, a full package deal). Because when we sit with legs crossed cherry-red-heeled Laboutins at attention and commanding much foot-traffic, we want to be simultaneously relaxed and entertained. Easing back into a cozy yet sophisticated chair, Whineos immediately puts us in the Friday-night mood with its glamour-oozing décor. Feeling a bit like we're at a party thrown at Salvador Dali's house and hosted by Frank Sinatra, we peruse the quirky bits and pieces surrounding us. We're mesmerized by the mounted stuffed fish and black and white pictures. But we adore the bar's hidden Scooby Room tucked secretly behind the bookcase.

So we slip away from our lounge mates (taking our glass of Fat Bastard wine ($8.50) with us) and sneak behind the bookshelf while we wait for our Moroccan Carrot Dip ($6) to arrive. And we certainly don't mind when the cute bartender follows us. Back at our table, and feeling flush with our private adventure, we order a French Connection Sparkling Cocktails ($9). Then we toast our fancy night out with a bottle of bubbly ($55-$125 a bottle).

Now we know why they call Vancouver the Hollywood of the North.
