Mangia with Amore

When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that’s amore. And so is West Vancouver’s newest Italian restaurant, Mangia E Bevi.
For owner Antonio Sauro, the world is shining now that his restaurant (whose name means “eat and drink” in Italian) is open. And so was ours once we learned he had paired up with Chef Rob Parrott who, like Sauro, has over 20 years’ experience as a North Shore restaurateur. Add a helpful brother-in-law, Doug Grisdale, into the mix and you’ve got fine home-cooked Italian dining.
We sat back, enjoyed the cozy atmosphere, admired the cheery wood and mustard yellow décor and tasted some of the best Italian cuisine to be had in Dundarave and Ambleside.
We started with the to-die-for-delicious Cozze E Vongole (mussels and clams at $15) swathed in a spicy tarragon prawn bisque. We then cleansed our palate with a Caprese Salad ($9), letting the fresh mozzarella, basil and tomato work their magic. For the Primi Piatti, we dug into Fusilli Roberto ($18), made of scrumptious shaved baby tenderloin, baby arugula and peperoncino, then Secondi-ed it with an order of the pistachio-encrusted black cod with roasted red pepper sauce, Merluzzo Alla Crosta ($28).
Now that is truly amore.
