“Hi Grandma! Is that cookies we smell?”
That was our first instinctual-inner-child-blurt upon entering Dunbar’s sweetest new spot -- Butter Baked Goods.
We know this isn’t Grandma’s kitchen—but if it’s the next best thing, we’ll take it. The recently opened retro-inspired bakeshop has a secret recipe for success. Remember West Broadway’s fabulous and French boutique, Ta Da!..? Sadly, it’s long gone. Best news ever? This is Ta Da!’s original owner, the super-talented style-wiz Rosie Daykin. Who knew she could bake too?
And how this woman can bake, making classic favorites even better. Thick, fudgy homemade Oreos and peanut butter sandwich cookies ($2.75 each) sell out pretty much daily. And when we tried the melt-in-your-mouth marshmallows in strawberry, vanilla and toasted coconut ($1.75 per bag), we vowed to never go back to Jet-Puffed again.
Butter’s showcase tempted us with even more goodies: Ultra-femme cupcakes frosted to look like roses, lemon squares, peanut butter frosted chocolate layer cake and walnut butterscotch. And we can’t wait for the upcoming seasonal treats like pumpkin muffins with streusel topping and Halloween sugar cookies.
Oh, Butter. You may not be our grandma, but we love you like you’re family.
