We Sweetspot gals love our wine (especially those made in our very own beautiful British Columbia vineyards). Of course, at this time of the year, before the new spring releases arrive, pickings are pretty slim. So we did a little research to find five delectable selections that are locally made for our Best Of B.C. wines under $22 list.
- Adding a little sparkle to our lives: See Ya Later Ranch Brut
We don’t need a special occasion to add some sparkle to our lives with See Ya Later Ranch Brut ($21.99), a creamy-dreamy bubbly with superlative bubbles, aromas of fresh baked croissants slathered with orchard fruit compote and a hint of white flowers. Made from 100% Chardonnay (or as the French say blanc de blancs) it suits our bubbly personality perfectly.
- When we are feeling a bit bolder: Sumac Ridge White Meritage
We crave the Sumac Ridge White Meritage ($20.99), a classic white Bordelaise blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. Lush yet crisp with white fruit and fresh cut grass aromas followed by zippy lemon flavours and creamy, vanilla spiced oak on the finish. Oh, and we make sure to practice our wine speak and pronounce mehr-ri-tihj correctly so that everyone knows how truly wine savvy we are.
- When we are feeling red: Peller Estate Reserve Cabernet Franc
Of course, a girl cannot live on white alone. So, when we’re curled up by the fire or decide that rack-of-lamb for dinner is just what the doctor ordered, we choose Peller Estate Reserve Cabernet Franc ($18.99), a juicy elixir of sweet plums, red cherries, earth and leather. The flavours are rich and smoky, all wrapped up in dried fruit and spiked with spice and coffee.
- The hostess with the mostess: Inniskillin Discovery Series Chenin Blanc
The Inniskillin Discovery Series Chenin Blanc ($16.99) is one of our favourite examples of a double-duty wine; it impresses our guests and shows off our foodie skills (it makes our creations taste even better). The aromas are fresh and buttery, like a fruit cup topped with whipped cream and honeysuckle. Plus, the warm, spiced peach flavours make it a showstopper with shellfish, cheese plates or creamy dishes.
- Our Monday-Wednesday bargain: Calona Artist Series Gewurztraminer
Calona Artist Series Gewurztraminer ($13.49) is our ultimate go-to wine. It’s the wine we like to keep around to drink with our take-out Thai or just to sip on a lazy afternoon. It reminds us of summer with its tropical fragrance lifted by enticing aromas of rose oil and orange blossoms. It has a tempting touch of honey and is sweetly spicy, just like us!
