The Flying Tiger is not to be confused with an Ang Lee sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (although we are waiting with baited breath). Rather, it's code for muted lighting, warm décor and an intriguing Asian-inspired restaurant that gives us delicious reprieve from summer barbeques. Not that we needed to be convinced to pop in and check out this brand new spot, proof is in its trendy lineage. The Flying Tiger is spawned from the precocious palates behind our other favourite Kitsilano hangouts: Abigail's Party, Hell's Kitchen and Nevermind.

And we weren't disappointed. With a room as long and narrow as this season's skinny jean, The Flying Tiger is cozily dressed in dark wood and Madras curry yellow, with an adorable street front patio (bamboo and lantern accessorized, of course) that made us feel like we were sipping in Singapore.

We were enticed by the mod-exotic menu selections like Roti Canai-Malaysian Flat Bread with Peanut Sauce ($6) Three Mushroom Shoyu Tofu en Papillote ($10), Mumbai Chat Masala ($10) and Pulled Duck Confit Crepes ($14). And we were happier than the Drunken Prawns ($14) to see the complementary wine list overflowing with such savvy options as Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Muscat, Viognier and Primitivo.

Imagine; all of that intrigue and we didn't even have to travel as far as Yaletown!
