Apologies to the French, the Greeks, the Spanish and the cowboys – but sometimes the Italians do do it better.
The proof is on the first floor of the arriVa Tower where we discovered Olives, a brand spanking new Italian restaurant.
The latest venture from the fine people who brought us Hotel Arts, Olives offers modern takes on popular Italian dishes with Mediterranean-infused touches. There’s a gourmet deli and café too, with a full espresso bar and traditional Italian pastries whipped up on-site.
We suggest starting with the antipasti: grilled squid ($21) served on marinated baby beets and fennel paired with one of their delicious flatbreads. Follow it up with grilled ahi tuna ($32) with herb polenta and a tomato-caper ragout or the braised lamb shank ($29).
The space is as delicious as the fare: high ceilings, contemporary metal shelving mixed with light wooden tables and gorgeous tiled paintings. It also features a massive three-sided bar, wrapped in green art deco tiling – perfect for watching the chefs work their magic. And when the time presents itself, ladies, excuse yourselves to the restroom. You might not want to leave.
The service is delightfully attentive, and right now, there are no line-ups. (So go now before word gets out!)
