Organic Fare in the Underground

the kitchen buddhaMontreal (Sep.20.11)

If Buddha had his own restaurant, what kind of place would it be?

We’re guessing it’d be identical to The Kitchen Buddha, where compassion for the earth is conveyed via vegan cuisine. More gourmet than granola, this tasty counter is also 90 per cent raw, gluten-free and uses organic ingredients.

The African soup ($3.50) was like velvet, made with yams, spices and peanut butter. The tasty BBQ tempeh and wild rice ($7.50) kept away the afternoon slump, while the incredible raw lasagna ($9.25) knocked our tastebuds for a loop. A slice of lemon tart ($4.95) – creamy custard over a cookie-like gluten-free crust – made a blissful end to our meal, and everything was served in biodegradable containers.

We’re officially buddies with Buddha now.
