Great Dame
Dame TartineMontreal
(Sep.16.08)
Fresh as a daisy, we woke Sunday morning seeking adventure. We planned a brisk afternoon of rollerblading, followed by antique hunting on Amherst Street. But first, we needed some fuel in our bellies...
Our hunt uncovered hidden gem Dame Tartine, a well-kept secret brunch spot in the Village. (It's also a magnet for cute guys with bedhead and baseball shirts.) We ordered a cup of full-bodied house coffee; it was strong and flavourful, exactly how we like our morning java. (Mental note: Pick up a 200g bag ($4) of coffee on the way out.)
As for the food, the selection of Eggs Benedict was overwhelming, but we settled on the aptly named Le Sublime ($11.45), with brie and pesto. We couldn't resist sampling the Jambonette Omlette ($8.95), served with whole wheat toast and a generous side of fruit. The friendly guy sitting across from us ordered a big bowl of granola dressed with yoghurt and berries ($8.98), while his buddy had poached eggs ($9-11) with asparagus and tomatoes. (Both gave rave reviews.)
After admiring Dame Tartine's vintage toasters and antique armoires, we were ready to resume the pursuit of our own (non-edible) treasures.
