It can strike without warning; that sudden, overwhelming desire for a meal that doesn't involve lettuce. When the craving hits, there's only one thing that'll satisfy us: The tang of cured meats – preferably paired with equally rich cheese. Add a glass of wine, and it's the holy trinity.
The Italians call it salumi; we call it salvation. And it's why we've become disciples of Divino Wine Bar, a cozy little spot in the heart of The Drive.
Skipping the salad and the water, we got things started with a cambozola-and-caramelized onion bruschetta ($6.50) and toasted with glasses of prosecco ($11) instead. Our ever-patient waiter helped us narrow down our charcuterie selections: We chose the smoked duck breast and buffalo bresaola, practically inhaled the cider-infused Red Dawn cheese – from BC's own Hilary's Cheese Company – (prices vary) and sipped the petite syrah ($11). To top off this religious experience, we headed next door to Gelateria Dolce Amore (owned by the same family) and scooped up the best gelato in town.
Not caving into our next craving? That would be sacrilege...
