With the Granville Street redesign project well under way—new sidewalks, streetscape furnishings, lighting and trees—we’ve been impatiently awaiting the arrival of a new and hot night spot: Something fresh, something fun, and something chic.
Something like The Refinery.
Just opened by SIP resto-lounge management team, The Refinery is (pardon the pun) refining the Granville and Helmcken corner. It’s a charcuterie-based, market-fresh-style eatery and wine bar with a great, second-floor view of the busy entertainment district. The venue meets some of the highest green standards in the biz: Non-toxic building supplies, reclaimed wood and energy-efficient lighting are just a few of the eco-friendly design features.
Chef Michael Carter’s kitchen uses all filtered water and recycling bins. His menu features artisan-cured meats, pates, terrines, cheeses, seafood dishes and sharing platters, plus nods to the management's European backgrounds with the antipasto and tapas plates. For us? We dug into the Vegetarian Plate ($18)—featuring the best white bean hummus we’ve tasted—let our capable server pick the cheese selections for the Cheese Plate ($18) and topped it off with divine Mascarpone Espresso Mouse ($9).
We’ll be back next time we’re in the mood for a little somethin’ somethin’.
