Remember when a marvelous vegetarian restaurant called The Coup opened on the Red Mile? The place grew so popular that people waited in line for hours, even in the bitter Calgary cold.
Well, not any more. The people at Coup bought the place next door and turned the new spot into a 1970s style martini/juice bar called Meet. The owners attached the two spaces and – voila! – two fantastic places, and shelter from the elements.
Reminiscent of a Sean Connery-era Bond movie, Meet is lavished with teak furniture and silver velvet. Orb lamps hang over the tables, giving the space a decidedly sexy glow.
The menu comes as a rolodex with foods filed under “f”, martinis under “a” (for alcohol), wines under “w” and beer under “b”. The offerings are a mix of alcoholic drinks ($8-$11), healthy juices ($3.50) and teas ($3.50-$5.), and vegetarian tapas ($5-$9). We applaud the unusual appetizers like ants on a log ($5.50)—a new take on the old celery, peanut butter and raisin classic—and martini glass of corn, chili sauce and crème fraiche ($9.50).
Delicious. And we don’t have to wait for a Chinook to go…
