Live and Let Drink

Bond – Lounge & GrillMontreal (Jan.16.09)

We love a good cocktail. We've been all over our fair city imbibing the latest and greatest concoctions. But to find an original – and exceptional – beverage without it costing a fortune, now that's a challenge. (One we gladly accept.)

A visit to the 007-inspired Bond – Lounge & Grill did the trick.Relaxing on sleek beige banquettes and plush red sofas while Bond flicks played in the background, we were tickled pink by the drinks menu, named for memorable villains and femmes fatales.

The thick and rich Holly Goodhead martini ($8, raspberry vodka and syrup with raspberries) resembled an undercover smoothie, while the Scaramanga (Absolut Mandrin, Alizé Passion and mango) was as potent as his golden gun. The fruity Plenty O'Tool (Havana Club and Chambord mixed with strawberry, raspberry and blueberry juice) and the refreshing Q (Smirnoff Vanilla, limoncello and lemon juice) cocktails ($8.50) will be perfect for sipping on their summer terrace.

With drinks going down so easily, we ordered a tasty bowl of fries with house mayo ($4.50) to soak up the alcohol. A warm goat cheese salad with candies onions ($7) was utterly scrumptious and the shrimps in pepper tomato sauce ($8) added just the right amount of spice.

Our greatest challenge now: Agreeing on our favourite Bond beverage. (We think a few more visits are in order.)
