Remember when bubble tea was trendy, hip and totally hot (or cold)? We know, we thought: seen one; you’ve seen them all—but one glance inside Time for Tea on West Broadway in Kitsilano convinced our inner Dorothy we weren’t in Kansas anymore.
Run by sisters Claudia and Christabel Chan—who also own Pretty Up Beads and Accessories on West Fourth—the newly minted café is a fresh respite from the cutie pie-ness and (OK, we’ll just say it) tackiness of its cousin cafés. The stylish sisters focused on keeping the decor modern and stuck with a gray, black and white colour palette. The walls are bedecked with white-flower and bamboo sticker tattoos, and streamlined tables and chairs match the rest.
We savoured our original milk tea ($3.75 with tapioca pearls) and green apple green tea ($3.75 with pearls), while digging in to sticky rice balls ($2.50) and bubble waffles ($3)—like a normal waffle, but thinner, crunchier and hollow in the middle!
We’ll be letting Auntie Em know we won’t be coming home…just yet.
