Sure we’d love to run to Napa Valley and sip our way through various reds and whites. Unfortunately, current economics in full view, said trip must alas be shelved.
But not to worry - we’ve stumbled across the perfect venue for exploring the wonders of the vine until the vineyards beckon once again.
The Ferocious Grape, Calgary’s newest wine boutique, carries a broad selection of wines from around the world, with emphasis on Californian and Italian varietals.
Most of the 450 labels in the shop come from smaller vineyards, all hand-selected by the in-house experts. The chic little store is organized country-by-country, with wines laid out on graceful custom birch cabinetry. (Most bottles run in the $30-60 range.)
With the help of sommelier Keith Robinson, we picked out a few beauties: Australia’s Canonbah Bridge Shiraz ($26.44), California’s Shadow Canyon “De La Vigne” Syrah ($42.61) and Oregon’s Amity Willamette Pinot Noir ($31.06).
Cheers.
