Some of us may be more comfortable in the kitchen than others, but we all agree a great meal with friends is a sweet way to spend an evening.
The new personalized cooking classes at La Bruschetta (starting at $75/person) combine the best of both worlds (think of it as dining with a lightly educational twist).
We were a bit intimidated by the thought of learning to prepare a traditional Italian meal, but our fears were quickly quelled. The experience (offered Monday to Thursday) is designed to be fun, and the food preparation is highly supervised (and essentially fool-proof).
For our first course we learned how to make a simple, but delicious fennel, goat cheese and blood orange salad. We then worked on stuffed bassa fish cooked in a limoncello sauce, accompanied by our handmade ravioli (definitely a highlight – even for seasoned cooks), stuffed with an already-prepared wild mushroom and prosciutto mixture.
After all that hard work, we were more than happy to sit and relax with a glass of wine while our pasta was cooked and served. Finally, we were shown how to assemble the mascarpone custard-chocolate-and-cookie Brutta ma Buona (ugly, but good) dessert.
We left stuffed, satisfied and wishing instructors Brenda Piantoni and Roger Duarte could be on-call for every culinary adventure.
