We love learning new things—especially when it involves delicious food.
For starters, we always thought La Buca—our favourite Kitsilano restaurant—in Italian meant “the mouth” in English. Turns out that’s what “la bocca” means –
and “la buca” translates to “the hole.”
So, with a name that means “the other hole,” we have no doubt that L’Altro Buca will be popular with the neighbourhood in its new, West End digs.
What was once Parkside restaurant has now been converted by restaurateurs, Chris Stewart and Andrey Durbach, into an Italian comfort food haven, just in time for its April 1 patio opening (one of the most gorgeous in the city).
We’ve always been partial to classics like tagliatelle Bolognese ($17) and osso bucco Milanese ($25), and love the spaghetti puttanesca (a name with several origins, $16.50).
And when we discovered the new braciole di maiale Calabrese ($19.50), a grilled pork chop with garlic, fennel, chilli, peppers, and fried onions, we thought it sounded familiar – a little research revealed that braciole was one of the dishes often mentioned by Tony Soprano.
Who knew dining out could be so educational?
