Post-graduation, we flitted around the Greek Islands having adventures that made our diaries blush. (Mamma Mia, move over!) Since then, we can’t walk into a Greek restaurant without grinning from ear to ear.
Stepping into Kyma, we had a culinary flashback. The smell of grilled fish drew us through the door to a comfy table for two, though it’s also well-suited for boisterous groups who want to spread out. The estiatorio offers an authentic Greek experience for the urban diner. It all starts with the gregarious and charming owner, Bobby Margaritis, who could be the Canadian ambassador to Greece (if the Department of Foreign Affairs was looking to fill the post).
The staff brought us a non-stop selection of little dishes. The tzatziki ($7) set the bar high, with its creamy perfection, while the saganaki ($10, fried cheese) became an instant favourite. Greek salad ($14/$20) was the perfect accompaniment to the whole octopus tentacles ($20) and the boneless Kyma chicken ($18) cooked in a wood-burning oven. Nibbling at the shrimp cakes ($9), we admired the updated Greek décor (no fishing nets, thank you), with a chic blue bar and funky lighting.
After the meal, the valet went to get our car while we reminisced about Mykonos…and Crete…and Paros…
