Our weakness for baked goodies always quickens the pulse, but a new café in the Plateau nearly took our breath away with its high-quality baked goods…and very low prices.
Owners Marie-Josée and Brigitte Anne have not only found their namesake in Café Soufflé de Marie & Anne’s street address, but they’ve managed to merge their culinary backgrounds to create top-notch homemade goods (made from fresh, pure ingredients), all served up in a warm, casual environment.
On a typical sleepy workday morning, the day’s baked offerings called out to us from the counter, where we proceeded to pounce on the Caramel & Pistachio Macaroons ($1) and the Unsweetened Banana Bread with Flax Seed & Cumin ($1.50 per slice). The Chocolate Brownie ($2.50) had the perfect rich density (guaranteed to get the heart racing), while the Butter Tart ($3.50) redefined our idea of baked perfection. We also grabbed a bag of the decadent Milk Chocolate Dipped Masala Toffee ($4.50) as we left.
With every product made on the premises – including ice cream, sandwiches and custom-order cakes – we eagerly planned our next visit before we even left the premises.
Who knew that eating out would initiate a cardiovascular routine?
