We eat out fairly often, which makes us somewhat hard to please when we come across a new dining spot in the city. (The word picky springs to mind.)
So we were surprised at how quickly we were won over by Bar & Boeuf, a new bistro in Old Montreal. With tasty ingredients that almost speak for themselves and the grand, high-fashion décor, Chef Alexandre Gosselin and owner Jorge Da Silva have succeeded in merging excellent service and sublime food.
We knew we were in for a treat when we started with the zesty green salad with citronella and ginger ($8) and the succulent heirloom tomatoes with coriander infused mozzarella ($10). The velvety butternut squash house ravioli with hazelnuts ($22) followed, along with the impeccably tender black angus beef steak with perigord truffles and fries ($25) and the braised pork flank with poached egg and garlic confit (19$) that left us virtually speechless.
Never ones to be obviously bowled over, we maintained our composure and didn’t give too much away, but we left this dining experience impressed and surprisingly satisfied.
Which might make us more of a softie than we look.
