Eating organic is like exercising – we know we’d feel better if we did, but it takes serious motivation to do it.
What we need is a group of trainers to cheer us on and put us through the works.
That’s exactly what we get with GO - A Culinary Community Cookbook ($20), a new local recipe book that’s an essential how-to guide to eco-friendly eats, put together by the province’s leading organic gurus.
The 70-page, picture-filled cookbook comes from the Going Organic Network—a province-wide co-operative of organic farmers, gardeners, market owners, chefs and eaters—each spotlighting their favourite organic recipes.
Soups, salads, main courses, desserts and even wine cocktails are featured, with a little something for vegans, beef lovers and everyone in between.
Our test kitchen saw the spoils of our organic toils, as we prepared the yummy Peck’n’Berry Acres Salad, a combo of hard-boiled fresh eggs and Saskatoon berries. (A recipe from a small pick-your-own farm outside Leduc.)
And because dessert doesn’t count when it’s organic (right?), we whipped up the Fairwinds Farm Goat Cheese Tart (a no-bake cheesecake), from Anita Oudshoorn, co-owner of Fort Macleod’s Fairwinds Farm. Heavenly and easy.
If only we could say the same about exercise….
