There’s no shortage of chocolate in this city, but sometimes what we crave is more than your average candy bar.
Luckily, with two new options, Dahso Chocolate et Cafe and Odile Chocolat, our sweet tooth is in check.
Long available at other gourmet food outlets, Odile recently opened its first retail location. At $4.50 for two truffles, we could afford to test out a few of the creative flavours. We opted for the sweet and spicy Mexicana (Tequila, candied lime peel, chipotle), smoky, smooth Chiyo (Sake, Japanese green tea), creamy, comforting Bollywood (Cardamom, silver leaf) and citrusy, sophisticated Sea Breeze (Vodka, candied grapefruit peel).
Or, if we’re ever caught further uptown in need of a chocolate fix, we now know to stop at Dahso. This chocolate shop-cum-cafe is a midtown oasis. We had ourselves a frothy cappuccino ($4.50) then it was decision time. In terms of sweet treats, we went with a white chocolate heart filled with whipped cream and strawberry ($2.10), dark chocolate filled with ganache and fresh raspberry ($1.40) and a slice of creamy, nutty vanilla flavoured Belgian cake ($4.90), a sweet, light-textured treat also available in pistachio, chocolate and champagne. Next time we’ll definitely be indulging in plain or chocolate-covered Belgian waffles ($5.90).
We now consider ourselves fully prepared for all chocolate cravings – whenever and wherever they strike.
