For many of us, allergies are a seasonal annoyance and a small price to pay for the warm weather they foretell (thank you, anti-histamines). For others, however, they represent something far more serious, especially when it comes to dining out.
Zero8 has come to our EpiPen-carrying rescue with a restaurant concept that is not only creative but also safe for those suffering from the most common allergens: fish/seafood, peanuts, nuts, sesame seeds, milk, soya, eggs, and wheat/gluten. Admittedly sceptical that taste would be sacrificed for ingredient limitations, we decided to put their worry-free warranty (printed on back of each menu) to the test.
Our doubts were happily removed after eating our Zero8 poutine ($7.50). Perfectly crispy fries, deliciously smooth gravy and duck replacing the cheese curds (for lactose sufferers) made for an exquisite start to our delectable journey. We continued on with the light and flavourful olive oil, garlic and parsley tagliatelle ($12.50) made from corn flour. And forks collided as we fought over the luscious tartin-styled cake and lukewarm apples ($5.75).
We were astonished that this fancy feast was entirely worry-free. (And thankful that we can enjoy this spot year-round.)
