By now, you've probably figured out that we get to go to some pretty awesome events (you've heard about the Joe Fresh and Winners fall previews).
But they're not only awesome for us, they're awesome for you too. We find out about all the amazing new stores, products and pieces that will be available (or opening) in the near future, which means you find out about everything new way before your friends (unless they're sweetspotters too) making you the coolest one in the bunch.
Last week, I headed to the launch of a new line by Herbal Essences. Already a huge fan of Hello Hydration, I couldn't have been happier when Ashleigh asked me to go.
Adding to my excitement was finding out the new line is called Tousle Me Softly. (To be clear, tousling is that soft, wavy, just-rolled-out-of-bed look that celebrities achieve so effortlessly. Or what looks effortless.) I have been attempting to achieve this style for years; whether by 'scrunching', using my flatiron or more recently, since I've splurged on a professional one, a curling iron. I don't think any of my attempts have been particularly successful. So, when I walked into the Windsor Arms and saw the word tousle, and a man who was clearly a hairstylist (which obviously meant celebrity hairstylist), I was pumped.
After examining and explaining the entire line, which I am extremely excited to try, he gave us some tips on achieving the perfect 'tousled' look. I have tried them and I assure you, done properly, they work.
Charles Baker Strahan's Tousling Tips
1. Focus underneath. Charles advises his clients to lift the upper section of their hair off the bottom. Focus the mousse at the root and then rub it through the hair. The under side is where most of the volume should be.
2. You can use a flatiron or curling iron depending on what you're looking for. Both a curling iron and flatiron can help achieve the tousled look. A curling iron will create tighter curls whereas a flatiron will create more body, and less of a curl.
3. Shampoo/condition at night and style in the morning. It's not about starting on wet hair. Heat changes the style, and cold air sets it.
4. Style starts in the shower. Don't neglect your shampoo and conditioner. These create a base for the rest of your styling regime, and are very important!
The only problem with sneak peeks is having to wait. The line won't be available in stores until August.
Just remember to thank us when your friends ask what it is you've done with your hair...
