New Year, New Resolutions

tales from the pit canada (Jan.04.10)

Cliché as it may be, the first blog post of the year must be about resolutions. There is something about the new year that makes me want to be a better person, inside and out. Here are the 10 things on my  2010 to-do list:
  1. Eat healthier: I already consider myself a pretty healthy eater, minus the constant sweets circulating the office and my love affair with carbohydrates. Hopefully 2010 will bring more vegetables and fruits into my life.
  2. Be more active: Whether it's going to the gym more often, finding a spin class I love, or just taking the stairs instead of the elevator (thanks for the idea interns!) I am going to get up and get moving this year.
  3. Don't let work consume me: I started this at the end of 2009, and am going to continue. Taking home my laptop everyday wasn't good for my relationship with my boyfriend (or myself). This year, I am vowing to only take it home on weekends.
  4. Spend more time with my friends: With boyfriends, careers, and relocation out of our hometown,  it seems that those who mean the most to me are the ones I see the least. That's not how it should be. I am hoping that planning the first of the weddings will add to our time spent together in 2010.
  5. Appreciate my boyfriend: I don't tell him enough, but he's amazing. He is fabulous at everything he does (from film editing, to drawing to just being a great friend). This year, I am going to tell him that as often as I can.
  6. Appreciate my parents: They are the best, bottom line. Just need to make sure they know that. Always.
  7. Call my grandparents more often: It's such a small thing that makes them so happy, and I am so busy that I don't always remember to call. That's not an excuse and it will no longer be an excuse in 2010.
  8. Shop less: While fashion may be one of my true loves in life, it doesn't add to my quality of life. I have more clothes than I will ever wear, and could spend my money on so many other (better) things...like #9.
  9. Give generously: With shopping less, I can give more to charities and buskers. There is an old man who plays violin at Bay station that I would give an entire paycheque to, if I could afford it. This year, I will give him something (as much as I can) every time I see him.
  10. Be a better writer (and editor): I love my job, and am lucky enough to work with some of the best editors out there. This year, I want to learn as much as I can from them, and make myself the best writer and editor I can be; for myself, and for you.
May 2010 be the year of keeping resolutions. Happy New Year!

-Sam
