Sam shares her favourite things about the holiday season...

So it's finally here; the Christmas trees have been erected, the lights have been turned on, Holt's has unveiled their holiday window. Holiday cheer is officially in the air. There is something about this time of year that makes me extremely happy. Of course, there are the downsides; like cold and flu season, and the bitter below-freezing temperatures that coincide with the holidays, but overall, it's pretty fantastic. People are nicer to each other than they are the rest of the year. You get together with those that you wish you saw more often, or if all else fails, you head down south for a nice warm vacation in Florida (yes, if you don't celebrate Christmas, you can take advantage of the Christmas eve/Christmas day fare sales!)
I used to celebrate just Hannukah, but since R. and his family celebrate Christmas, I now happily celebrate both. Regardless of what holiday you celebrate, you can't help but love this time of year. Below are a few of my favourite things:
Display Windows: I love sparkles, and holiday window displays typically include a lot of sparkles. Holt Renfrew on Bloor in Toronto always has a very beautiful (and very sparkly) holiday window. Any others I should know about?
Movies: Who doesn't love holiday movies? Between Four Christmases, The Holiday, and Love Actually (which I am pretty sure I have already professed my deep love for), this season brings out the best in film. And, with blizzards and snow outside, the perfect weather to watch them in.
Hot Chocolate: High in calories, I know, but also very high in taste. The perfect addition to a cold day. Luckily, Starbucks, Second Cup and Tim Hortons all offer delicious variations!
Parties: OK, so probably the best part of the season. Every weekend usually involves some sort of holiday cocktail/dinner party, which are one of my most favourite things to do. You eat, you drink, you catch up with old friends, make new ones (everyone bonds over a martini or two!) and you have a good time. Over and over and over again...

Happy eating, happy drinking, and happy shopping!
